Yellow-browed Warblers and Great White Egrets: must be Holkham!

Brian, Norman and I (AKA 'The Last of the Summer Wine Crew') rarely visit Holkham Pines between May and October - there are just too many dogs / kids / strollers. Also, the parking charges are outrageous: £6.50 for four hours!

Still: with an early start, when we arrived at 8.00am we were just the fourth car parked at the end of Lady Anne's Drive.  This allowed us a chance to examine every tit flock and small bird we came across, until eventually we'd seen at least three Yellow-browed Warblers (all past the Jordan Hide) Photographing them was another matter, but I did manage a few dodgy efforts! In among them was a striking Chiffchaff type with an extensive pale super. At the very end of the pines a large pipit was standing on the path: I was immediately struck by its well-marked face pattern and upright stance. As it flew over our heads, it called, confirming (to me!) that it was a Richard's Pipit.

Two Great White Egrets and a few Red Kites added to the day's enjoyment (we were to see more of both as we headed eastwards later) as well as plenty of Goldcrests and Chiffchaffs.

We visited several more venues before heading home to beat the rain: Titchwell (another YBW seen / heard), Wells North Point (a third GWE) and Beeston Common (A final YBW heard)
