Norman has treated himself to a new car: a Bentley Continental! He was keen to give me a ride out, so we headed north to Cley. First stop was the centre hide complex, where star items were a pair of Hares that came really close: little else to report, apart from the first Cuckoo of the year however.
We walked round to Bishop's hide, where it was interesting to watch a Spoonbill collecting nesting material before flying off with it to North Foreland woods. A pair of Common Sandpipers were most obliging! A walk out to the sea along the East Bank added just a Little Egret, until I managed to pick out the long-staying Dowitcher in a group of Bar- and Black-tailed Godwits.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Norman wasn't keen to risk his beautiful new car in crowded car parks or aling narrow, bumpy tracks, so after coffee and scones we drove home...
