Common Cranes: such a splendid addition to our avifauna!

It's only thirty or so years ago that I received a phone call from Suffolk birder John Eaton (now deceased, I fear) telling me that a pair of Cranes had overwintered at Horsey. It took me several weeks to finally connect: but what a thrill to watch these astonishing birds feeding in a ditch near Somerton.

Today Linda and I came across a group of seventeen, (fifteen and a pair) including at least two juveniles. These were feeding confidently out in the middle of a cereal field near Clippesby, only flying off when a tractor approached them.
