The Orion Nebula

Orion is the winter constellation: it's big, bright and full of interest. It contains the red super-giant Betelgeuse and the blue super-giant Rigel - two of the brightest stars in the sky. Below and to the left is the brightest star: Sirius. Hanging from Orion's belt is his sword: this includes a gassy nebula that is so bright I even photographed it tonight with an ordinary 300mm lens!

All too soon Spring will arrive and Orion will disappear from the night sky for another year: go and have a look at him while he's so well-placed!
