Great day out on the North Coast: Glaucous Gull, Spoonbill, and much more!

Norman, Brian and I hadn't managed a day out for a while, so we took advantage of the dry (if overcast) morning for a run up the NDR to Cley. The walk out along the East Bank was soon rewarded by distant views of the over-wintering Spoonbill and, a little later, we came across the juvenile Glaucous Gull on an island on North Scrape. While we were walking back to the car a small flock of Snow Buntings dropped down a few metres away and gradually shuffled towards us...

After coffee we drove south to Sculthorpe, picking up Grey Partridge en route. This lovely reserve with its terrific walkways and hides never fails to delight: today was no exception, with good views of some terrific woodland birds including Lesser and Mealy Redpoll.

Since our drive home took us close to the well-known Tawny Owl roosting tree, it was a good opportunity for Brian and Norman to catch up with this delightful bird...
