Brian, Norman and I made a couple of early circuits of Hickling NWT Reserve this morning: in view of the ten degree drop in temperature, we didn't expect to see much. In fact, we had quite a decent 'haul', although virtually everything was quite distant. Lots of dragons and damsels, but very few butterflies were braving the north-easterlies..
Best birds, I suppose, were the two recently-fledged Tawny Owls we came across as we walked through the woods. They didn't seem to mind us, but did object to the attentions of a family of Jays.
Other birds we saw included two Hobbies, two Cranes, a Great White Egret, a Peregrine and an even more distant female Red-footed Falcon. There was little point trying to photograph any of these, but I had a bash anyway!
