As mentioned earlier, the weather was a little bleak for any chance of most of the target species we'd hoped for: no Small, Chalkhill or Adonis Blues and, more frustratingly, no Brown Hairstreaks at Pulborough Brooks (a local hotspot)
Nevertheless, we did see a few interesting odds and ends: Pyramidial, Common Spotted and Bee Orchids were good to find, while Meadow Brown, Essex Skipper and Speckled Wood were the only Butterflies...
It was interesting to discover large patches of Samphire on the riverside at Shoreham: doesn't anyone eat it in Sussex?
