With a dire weather forecast for tomorrow and all my bird-buddies unavailable, I thought I'd see if any Little Auks were hanging around Ness Point at Lowestoft. Being the most easterly spot in mainland UK, seabird waifs and strays often fetch up here: I had my first ever Little Auk just off the 'rocks' twenty five years ago!
Today it wasn't to be, but the rest of the avian offerings more than made up for the lack of alcids: my first Snow Bunting of the second winter period, a really dapper Rock Pipit, a Mediterranean Gull with dodgy undercarriage and - best of all - two confiding Purple Sandpipers!
