As I may have mentioned previously, during 'lockdown' Linda and I decided to redesign the garden, adding some tall shrubs and trees along the eastern boundary. This is soon to be overlooked when a small bungalow is crammed into our 'neighbour's' garden (Despite her plans being turned down three times by parish and district councils, the decision was overturned by one man at County level. Hmmmm... So much for democracy!)
I thought it might be a good time to add a bed in the centre of the lawn, to attract wildlife closer to our house and add extra interest. As you can see below, the new circular bed features a crab-apple and a Drimys winteri. This Patagonian evergreen has a fascinating history of use by explorers for its therapeutic properties: we just hope it will attract more insects into the garden!
Here are a few 'work in progress' shots: while we were enjoying an alfresco supper with friends Sue and Peter last night, the bed had its first visitor: a delightful young hedgehog!
