Six go wild in Suffolk: a reunion on Westleton Heath

You may remember that Linda and I are involved in the monitoring and recording of the wildlife in and around our local churchyard. It was partly through this that we became such good friends with neighbours Sue & Peter, and also how we first met Joyce & Andrew, the delightful owners of the nearby Georgian hall. Last year they decided to pass on the stewardship of this rambling country house, moving to a beautiful modern home within a stone's throw of Minsmere. Yesterday the six of us met for a catch up and a ramble over Westleton Heath.

Being mid July, we weren't expecting to come across much in the way of birdlife: however, we did see or hear Hobby, Dartford Warbler and Stone Curlew, as well as more expected species such as Stonechat, Buzzard and Yellowhammer.

Butterflies were everywhere and in great variety: we counted fifteen species, including Grayling and Silver-studded Blue. A five-mile ramble was followed by an equally pleasant al fresco meal on the patio, during which we enjoyed watching even more Buzzards and butterflies!
