First attempt at the Orion Nebula

The sky cleared just after sunset, so I wrapped up warmly and spent half an hour trying to come to grips with the new GPS Astrotracker unit. After half a dozen failed attempts, I realised (having checked a couple of online tutorials) that the system cannot cope with too long a focal length: I was using a 300mm prime and 1.4 converter. The image is about the best I managed 😞 It's the Orion Nebula that forms part of Orion's 'sword': a beautiful region of gas, dust and star formation.

We are not due any gaps in the clouds for a few days now, so the next attempt will have to wait!
