On Thursday this week it's my 70th birthday: naturally it will be an extraordinarily anti-climactic event and not at all what I'd anticipated. Looking ahead a couple of years ago, I'd envisaged getting lots of musician friends together for an evening of live blues and rock, a round of dinner parties and a weekend away somewhere expensive. Instead of which I'll be cooking some langoustines in garlic butter for Linda and me...
