A fairly early rise saw me at Hickling by 7.45. The usual watchpoint overlooking Brendon's Marsh was unproductive, so I carried on to the 'mound' just before Stubb Mill. Here things improved immediately (albeit most birds were some distance away in the heat haze!) with three Black-winged Stilts, two beautiful Grey Plovers and a Garganey. A male Ring Ouzel fed close by on the short turf, while overhead a Crane, Red Kite and numerous Marsh Harriers were enjoying the sunshine. A small flock of Wood Sandpipers and a larger one of Black-tailed Godwits tazzed past too, while the woodland edges were full of the sound of Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs, Garden Warblers, Blackcaps and Cuckoos!
