Strumpshaw Fen: unexpected year tick!

Since we have lots on this week (bees, band, car etc) Linda and I decided to take a quick walk around the Fen - I haven't visited in ages...

Willow Warblers, Blackcaps, Garden Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Groppers were everywhere, singing their little heads off in the strong sunshine. Tower Hide pool held very little, but a pair of Common Terns roughed up a Black-headed Gull right in front of the hide. Carrying on round along the riverbank and Lackford Run, we enjoyed good (if distant) views of a Cuckoo: several mint-fresh Scarce Chasers and various damselflies. The year tick was a pair of Grey Wagtails, re-occupying a traditional nesting site.
