Dodging the showers at Strumpshaw Fen: Water Rails, Kingfishers and lots more!

A seven o'clock start was early enough to miss the heavy rain but catch up with some of the regular birdlife at the Fen.
Kingfishers were ubiquitous, as were Water Rails and Common Terns. Very few insects on the wing, and just a couple of Marsh Harriers: presumably much of the wildlife is wondering where Summer went!

The only waders were a pair of Common Sandpipers briefly (and distantly!) in front of Tower Hide.
