In my case, that's easy: a new specimen plant for the garden. Linda and I share an interest in gardening (I taught horticulture and agriculture for a number of years) My tastes tend to centre around unusual plants, whether rare, prehistoric or just plain bizarre. Last year Linda bought me a Drimys (a rare shrub from Patagonia) a few years before it was a Wollemi Pine and this year it's a Loquat. This Central Chinese species produces small, round citrus fruits (a bit like a sweet Kumquat) I'm not anticipating any fruit from our latest addition - they need a slightly warmer climate, I think - but that'd be a bonus....
