Iceland Gull at Cley: seconds and good supporting cast!

Brian and I decided to ignore the weather report (although did decide on a slightly later start!) and were in the beach car park at Cley before 9.00. A brief seawatch from the shelter added Purple Sandpiper to the year list: when the rain stopped we walked east along the beach, seeing nothing until we reached the North Screen. From here we were delighted to pick out a dozen or so fine Pintail and a few Curlew, but little else. Carrying on to the East Bank, we sat in the shelter while a squall passed over: Brian found a distant flock of Snow Buntings while I was watching the long-staying Iceland Gull flying east along the shingle ridge. After adding Dunlin and Kingfisher to the day list, we retraced our steps to the beach, skirting Arnold's Marsh in the hope of finding the Buntings: no joy, but the Iceland Gull flew along the beach before resting on Arnold's for ten minutes.

We finished the circuit via the visitors' centre for a cup of coffee: on the way we saw more Dunlin, lots of Brents, a Skylark and two Buzzards.

On the way home we diverted to Ingham to view the flock / herd of Swans: this contained all three native species - Mute, Bewick's and Whooper.
