Linda and I fancied a bit of exercise, so headed out to Hickling NWT reserve. On the way, we diverted down Cess Road, Martham, where we quickly located two and then five Cattle Egrets. As before, they seemed to spend more time with sheep than cattle!
Hickling was more or less a bird-free zone: we had the place more or less to ourselves, but saw literally just two birds by the time we reached Brandon's Scrape - a female Stonechat and a Mute Swan! A pleasant local birder had seen a pair of Pintail among the large flock of Mallards, Teal and Shovelers: we couldn't relocate them (unless this odd duck is one!) but added Gadwall to the year list.
In the car park a couple of Coal Tits gave themselves away with their monotonous call....
