Just outside the village where I live, there is (or rather was) a thriving colony of Bee Orchids. This was 'protected' at either end by a pair of stout wooden posts, clearly marking the verge where they grew. When I stopped to look at them today, I discovered to my astonishment that the verge had been mowed: to do this the tractor driver had skilfully avoided the two 'Nature Reserve' signs with his cutters!
