Orion strides across the Southern sky...

Beautiful Orion - everyone's favourite constellation! To the Ancient Egyptians, this group of stars was Osiris, the god of the dead, who welcomed the recently-departed into heaven. To the Greeks, Orion was a mighty hunter: Sirius - the brightest star in the sky - was a dog trotting at his heels! Orion's sword contains a bright nebula that can be seen well with binoculars.

Tonight at around 20.30 the International Space Station passed close by: a marvellous thing to see!
