As I mentioned earlier, my main reason for an early rise (apart from the need to avoid other people!) was to try for less grainy shots of the conjunction. This time I took a sturdy tripod and used the 'bulb' setting on the cameras: the results, I feel, were much more atmospheric and clearer.
Oh! The ISS will pass right through Orion tonight at around 7.35: it'll be really bright, so worth seeing!
