Raptor-fest at Hemblington Church

This lunchtime Linda, Sue, Peter, Gwendoline and I carried out the second wildlife survey of the year at the Church. Initially it was a warm, spring-like morning and the Buzzards were out in force: groups of 2, 3, 4 and five - as well as singles - gave us a grand total of 12 birds. Joining a 'kettle' of three at one point was a Red Kite - only the second we've seen on an official count day!

All the usual churchyard birds were in evidence: Greenfinches, Goldfinches, Chaffinches, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Long-tailed, Blue and Great Tits as well as Blackbirds and Robins.
